Jessica Hardy returned to competition in August of 2009 and made the most of her races at the U.S. Open in early August. She accomplished the rare feat of breaking two world records in the same race. Swimming the 100m breast, Hardy not only broke the world record in the 100m breast, but also snapped the world mark in the 50m breast at the halfway point. Rebecca Soni’s won the Golden Goggle for Race of the Year in 2008. In 2009, Soni won gold and set the world record in the 100m breast at World Championships in Rome. Soni had back-to-back swims in the semifinal and final that both went under the old world record. In the final, she took the gold by nearly half a second.
